ABOUT ME

Welcome! I am Lisa, owner of Oak Grove Yoga & Wellness.  The love of yoga happened the day I tried yoga for the first time at a YMCA class while in university. I started my yoga journey with the sole purpose of getting stronger and physically fit. I realized very early on that yoga (both meditation and physical practice) was needed for me to feel healthy and strong both physically and more importantly, mentally. This nearly daily practice has ensured that I can keep calm, stay in the moment and generally feel like I don't need to rip anyone's face off. I love to learn, practice and share yoga.

I completed my 200 hour Hatha Vinyasa yoga training in Halifax at TAYS (Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio). From there, I took the yoga schools advice and got out in the world and started teaching. I was a year into my teacher experience when Covid hit and well, we know what happened next. I took the opportunity to move my teaching from Bridgewater, NS to outside on my lawn in Wentzell Lake under the Oak Grove. Since then, I have been committed to keeping yoga and wellness classes in the rural community. I think it is really important to offer movement and meditation opportunities in the rural community as driving any distance for a 60 or 75 minute class is difficult for many of us to schedule. Due to lack of spaces to offer such classes, my husband, Hugh and I built a 650 square foot studio on our property to ensure that my classes and other offerings can stay rural.

I am a wife and mother of 2 girls and 2 fur babies and am currently enrolled in The School of Embodied Yoga Therapy in Ottawa. I have completed my second year of studies and currently working on my required practicum to become an internationally certified yoga therapist. I look forward to deepening my knowledge and practice in the ancient teachings of yoga. I look forward to meeting you soon on your mat or chair!
